In the MAPP HR Best Practices Award 2017, Nicolet Plastics, Inc. earned second place, while Harmony Systems & Service tied for third.

“The common perception is that business leadership comes from large corporations. However, our customers are demonstrating that companies of all sizes can drive innovation, whether it’s smart manufacturing on the shop floor or creative strategies for building strong teams,” said Gary Nemmers, IQMS CEO. “We are thrilled by the recognition that Intertech Medical, Wisconsin Plastics, Nicolet Plastics, and Harmony Systems & Service have earned for their leadership with the 2017 awards from MAPP. MAPP Innovation Award 2017

Intertech Medical, an affiliate of Intertech Plastics located in Denver, Colorado, earned first place in the MAPP Innovation Award 2017 for its zero-defect solution, which identifies defective parts and automatically scraps start-up rejects. The company’s machine-side, automated work-cell utilizes integrated process control and quality control on behalf a customer. Handling more than 3 million parts per year, it delivered a return on investment (ROI) within 8.4 months in hard cost savings alone. Additionally, the solution has driven customer satisfaction while eliminating the burden on Intertech Medical’s quality department, which previously had to perform additional manual inspections.

Wisconsin Plastics, Inc., based in Green Bay, WI, tied for third place in the MAPP Innovation Award 2017 for combining a new Universal Robot with a standard machine robot to pick, place, and pad print parts as part of the company’s human assembly line. The “cobot” has enabled the company to increase the throughput for the assembly line by 25% while removing three assemblers per shift from the overall process. The assemblers have been reassigned elsewhere, enabling Wisconsin Plastics to run another complete assembly line.

MAPP HR Best Practices Award 2017

Nicolet Plastics, Inc., headquartered in Mountain, Wisconsin, earned second place in the MAPP HR Best Practices Award 2017 for the company’s employee onboarding program. The company’s goal in 2017 was to onboard a production operator within 60 days. As of June 30, 2017, only 4% of production operators extended their onboarding training beyond 60 days. Additionally, the percentage of new hires leaving within 90 days has declined by more than half, from 33% in 2016 to 14% in 2017.

Harmony Systems & Service, Inc., located in Piqua, OH, tied for third place in the MAPP HR Best Practices Award 2017 for the company’s employee retention strategy. The company focuses on hiring individuals for their attitude, including people with disabilities through RT Industries, and then providing training with support from an onsite job coach. All 10 RT employees have been converted from temporary status to the full-time payroll, with a retention rate of 760-plus days versus 436 days for other full-time employees.
